Clark Gable and Carole Lombard get married March 29, 1939

On March 29, 1939, during a break in production on “Gone with the Wind”, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard drove to Kingman, Arizona and were married in a ceremony with only Gable’s press agent and good friend, Otto Winkler, in attendance. The newlyweds drove home immediately afterward, arriving in Los Angeles at 3:00am. After a few hours sleep, the publicity department at MGM had arranged for them to have a meet and greet with the press on the front lawn. They posed for pictures and answered questions, with Gable answering most of the questions with “no comment” when the press got too personal.
