Lupe Velez — “The Mexican Spitfire”

Lupe Vélez (July 18, 1908 – December 14, 1944) was a Mexican film actress. The exotic beauty was often referred to as “The Mexican Spitfire” and “The Hot Pepper”. Vélez was one of the first Mexican actresses to succeed in Hollywood along with Dolores del Río and Katy Jurado. Velez worked with directors such as D. W. Griffith, Victor Fleming, William Wyler and Cecil B. DeMille and with stars like Gary Cooper, Warner Baxter, Jimmy Durante, Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel among others. Lupe Vélez has a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the 6927 Hollywood Boulevard for her contributions to the motion picture industry.
