What Is a Home Theater System?
Basically, the term ‘home theater’ is somewhat difficult to define since it is rather a vague term that refers to a certain type of approach to home entertainment. It is made up of a combination of different electronic components that are manufactured and designed to recreate the sensation of watching a movie in a movie theater. In other words, you will have the better picture quality and surround sound that a movie theater provides without the hassles.
There is a definite advantage to watching a movie on a system like this because you find that you become even more engrossed in the movie than you do if you were to see it on an ordinary television. Also, watching it at home has certain advantages that a movie theater does not. For one thing you can get comfy in your favorite chair or sofa, without anyone else there to disturb your enjoyment of the movie. There will not be any noise or heads popping up to block your picture and there will be nobody sitting behind you bumping your seat all the time!
In order to understand and see how a home theater is put together we need to look at the original mode, which happens to be the movie theater. Obviously, the movie theater offers great picture and sound, an experience that is not available to us at home. It is because of this experience that people pay to go see movies at the theater even though they can rent the movie on DVD for far less. There are a few components that make watching your TV and going to the movie theater to see a movie very different.
Of course, one of the main and most obvious differences is the way sound is experienced. At a movie theater, one gets to enjoy music and sound effects from speakers set up all around the theater. This means that if someone on the left of the screen says something you hear it coming more from the speakers on the left. Surround sound has the ability to change your experience of the movie by making you feel far more involved in it. It greatly enhances the whole experience making it far more enjoyable and fun.
The next obvious difference is the large size of the movie screen in the movie theater. Because it takes up most of your field of vision, it makes it easier for you to lose yourself in the plot and story of the movie you are watching. This is understandable when you consider that you are sitting in a dark room with only a giant screen to look at.
When you choose to install a home theater system, you need to bear in mind that the whole idea of it is to recreate these elements using equipment designed for home use. Once you have determined your budget you can then find out about all the different products and furniture available to you that will make your home theater the envy of your family and friends. Just do not be surprised if your home becomes the theater of choice for everyone you know!
